My latest cake creation.

I made this cake for my friend Mercy's birthday, her b-day was a few weeks ago and I had promised I would make her one of my cakes. I didn't add the "Happy Birthday" because I have to practise on my writing.
Ms. Mercy hosted our scrappy get-together this month and I took her the cake. She got so happy when she saw it and that just made my day. We had such a great time at her home, I'm loving our monthly scrappy get-together. I'll soon post about it.

I start by organizing and sanitizing all my tools and work area.


This was a German chocolate cake with chocolate custard filling. Once baked and cooled I crumb coat it, in order for the fondant to stick to it.

Here I'm waiting for my sugar paste art work to dry. I worked on these about a week before. Gum paste flowers, if properly stored, can last for a very long tome. I like to take my time and enjoy the process. For me this is the most creative part of making my cakes.

I didn't have one of those professional cake boards, so I made my own. I used some crepe paper that I pleaded and glued with the hot glue gun. I covered the board with this paper from the "Mariposa" paper collection, very appropriate for my scrappy friends. This paper is a beautiful olive green that just worked so well with the veined sugar paste leaves.

I'm just so in love with this sugar paste flower. I'm happy how it turned out. It's really a fantasy flower, I kinda made it up. I just kept working on the shades, dark pink, light pink and a hint of yellow. I also used a touch of Luster Dust, it's like edible Glimmer Mist, lol. I think getting the colors and shades just right makes the biggest difference. LOVE it.




I was having problems with one of the sugar paste leaves, it just would not stay on. I came up with this idea and the extra support worked. I left it like that over night and it was perfect in the morning.

Finally my cake made it to the board in one piece. The leaf was still on and it made it safely to the crop. I'm happy to announce that they loved it. Happy belated birthday Ms. Mercy!

More Mother's Day Cards.

These three cards I made today for my sisters. I use a mix of papers from October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket. These two collections work really well together, one is a bit brighter than the other and I kinda like that. I love making cards with them.

I'm in a RETRO mood.

This card I made for my mom. My mom is so super crafty, there is nothing she can't do or at least give it a try. I remember when I was little, about eight or nine years old, if you could find a yard of fabric you were blessed never mind a piece of elastic. I'll spare you the details, it's was a long time ago.

It's funny the things we remember. When I was making this card for my mom, I remembered when we were little, she sewed all our clothing. She sewed not like we do now, as a hobby , but out of necessity. She made our undies, yes our undies. She had no elastic so she would do a band around the waist, like a drawstring with the same material. The undies had a slit on the side and then we would tie a little bow with the tiny band and it worked.

I also remembered my ORANGE DRESS. The fabric was cotton and very comfortable. It had no sleeves and it opened in the back with snaps that started on the back of the neck. It gathered at the waist and it had an embroidery design in the front that she did by hand in orange too. The embroidery design was of little girl with a stick and a streamer at the end of the stick. It look like the child was playing with the wind. I remember every little detail of this dress. I had a love hate relationship with it. I loved it because my mom made it so neat and pretty and you could see and feel the love she put into it. But, I hated it cause I wore it for an entire year and it was the same dress that I wore on my trip to the states.

My mom would hand wash it, along with my white Keds, it would air dry over night and I would wear it again the next day. I don't remember the color of my sister's dresses, but I sure remember mine. I'm happy to say that my life long dislike for the color Orange is long gone, I have a new found love affair with the color Orange now.

Till this day I still remember the first time my mom and us stepped inside a Minnesota Fabric store in Chicago. We thought we died and went to heaven.
Making this card for my mom brought all those memories back. I love my mom and all she's done for us. I'm so blessed to have her!

MY LATEST CAKE CREATION.

I made this cake as a thank you gift for my sister and my mom. They took care of my girls for the weekend. The inspiration for this cake came from some cupcakes I made last month for my scrappy friends. I just love these colors! It's a yummy vanilla cake with chocolate custard filling and fondant. I love baking and making pretty cakes, I just wish I had more hours in the day.
I had a client tell me just last week that she is getting ready to retire, but she doesn't know what to do with her self. I can't understand that??? I have so many plans for when I retire.

LOOK AT WHAT I'VE MADE MY MOM FOR MOTHER'S DAY.

I made this for my mom today. I've been saving this Melody Ross paper collection for just this project. The book it's filled with pictures of her grandchildren. I left plenty of empty room for her to journal on. I found some bible passages in Spanish and I know she'll love that. I'm making her a card too and adding a little gift card. It's just getting harder and harder to find a gift for my mom, I don't know why that is?
I'm also working on some cards for my sisters too. They "the kids" usually get me something for mother's day, even though I'm not a mom. So I always like to get my sisters a little something cause they always think of me on mother's day.

SO SUPER HAPPY.

I'm so excited and grateful for what my friend ANA gave me last week. Isn't it just gorgeous! She no longer had a need for it and she asked me if I wanted it. Oh my, when I saw it, It's a real antique with wheels on the bottom. I just fell in love with it. For now it's in the middle of my living room cause I have no idea where I'm going to put it. I just LOVE looking at it. Thank you Ms. Ana.


I also wanted to share with you what I've been working on. I've tea dyed some fabric and been playing with my favorite stamp sets. This is what I came out with, now they are ready for me to incorporate in some project. I love how they turned out.
